What it costs

Read this before you compare quotes

Tiling labour

$80–$130

per m², depending on tile size, layout and how much cutting the room needs.

Full bathroom

$5k–$12k

Strip-out, waterproofing, screed and tiling. Fittings and plumbing are separate.

On site

3–7 days

For a standard retile, plus membrane cure time before tiling starts.

A quote that's thousands cheaper is almost always cheaper below the tile: a thinner membrane, no screed, adhesive spot-fixed to save time. You won't see any of it. You'll find out in year three when the ceiling below the shower stains.

Questions we get asked

Bathroom tiling FAQs

Why does my bathroom smell damp?

Usually water sitting behind or under the tile: a failed membrane, an unsealed junction, or a floor with no fall so water never reaches the waste. We'll find where it's getting in before quoting a fix, rather than tiling over it.

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Sometimes, if the existing bed is sound and the height works. But it hides whatever is underneath, including the membrane, so we'll only recommend it when we can verify what's there.

Which tiles suit New Zealand bathrooms?

Porcelain for floors, because it's denser and takes less water. Rectified large format if you want fewer grout lines, though it needs a flatter substrate. Natural stone looks superb but needs sealing and a bit more care.

Do you supply the tiles?

You can buy your own, or we'll take you through The Tile Depot or Tile Space and order on our trade account.

What does the 10-year warranty cover?

Our workmanship across the whole build-up: membrane, screed, adhesive and tiling. In writing at handover, not a verbal promise.
